Lana Higson

Clinical Neuropsychologist

MPsych (Clin Neuro), PhD Candidate, MAPS

Lana has experience within both the public and private sectors across a range of neurological conditions. She has provided diagnostic clarity and support for children and adults experiencing functional difficulties and has experience conducting neuropsychological assessments for cognitive characterisation and diagnosis of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders.

Lana has a particular interest in the field of treating functional seizures. She is passionate about raising awareness of functional seizures and providing practical support to individuals and their families. Her research involves the development of interventions and exploration of treatments to reduce functional seizure symptoms, improve health-related quality of life, and identify predictors to successful treatment outcomes. She has gained clinical experience in providing treatment to individuals with functional symptoms by working alongside other health professionals, including neurologists and psychiatrists.

At Neuropsychology East Melbourne, Lana provides psychological therapy as an intervention for functional neurological disorders (FND), including functional seizures, drawing on a range of evidence-based therapeutic techniques from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and emotion focused therapy (EFT).  She values working collaboratively within the therapeutic alliance built on empathy, warmth, and respect.
